CULTURE AND TRADITIONS

CULTURE

Culture and strengthening traditions are the foundations for building a fairer, more equitable, inclusive, and fulfilling society. And at the Letty Coppel Foundation, we feel proud to have taken actions to strengthen both.

Whether supporting social, cultural, and historic heritage defense projects or protecting and conserving endemic wildlife species, the Letty Coppel Foundation has been a reference in stimulating such movements in Mazatlan and Los Cabos.

WORRIED ABOUT THE FUTURE

The Sea Turtle Protection and Preservation program, which started in 2000, seeks to involve the local community in activities for the protection and awareness of this endangered species, which nests in the Los Cabos and Mazatlán area.

The Hotel Network for Sea Turtle Protection in Los Cabos was formed in 2013 with volunteers for the Participative Vigilance Committee, coordinated and supervised by the City of Los Cabos and PROFEPA.

The committee patrols the beaches to care for the spawning, protect the nests, and release the sea turtles, which has been vital for this species’ survival.

RESCUING HISTORY
CASA MACHADO

Several years ago, the Casa Machado museum opened in Mazatlan to promote and preserve the local culture by exhibiting the lifestyle of the local families at the end of the 19th century.
One of its rooms displayed a compilation of the city’s most important traditions, the Mazatlan Carnival.

Nowadays, Casa Machado hosts one of the most emblematic restaurants of the destination – Casa 46 – where there are still pieces that reflect Mazatlan’s architectural style. It also has elements representing the city’s carnival tradition in the “Salón de las Reinas.”

THE THREE WISE MEN – JUGUETÓN
6
JAN

This celebration is held yearly to benefit the children of Los Cabos and Mazatlán.

Throughout this time, the Juguetón has been able to bring thousands of smiles thanks to its donations and the efforts of individual volunteers and fellow social assistance organizations who, through the Fundación Letty Coppel, have made it all possible by bringing toys to the children who are so excitedly awaiting for the arrival of the Three Wise Men.

FESTIVITIES FOR THE VIRGIN OF GUADALUPE
12
DEC

To maintain and rescue our traditions in Los Cabos and Mazatlán, year after year, the traditional pilgrimage of the Virgin of Guadalupe takes place, as well as various celebrations in coordination with other civil and social assistance associations in honor of the patron saint of Mexico. These festivities begin with a pilgrimage on December 11th in both cities.

On December 12th, at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf and Spa Resort, a special mass is celebrated in the hotel’s chapel, followed by a performance of regional dances.
